A Fall Bucket List for You and Your Pup

Cooler weather, leaves falling, and warm evening bonfires are all indications that Fall is upon us! Not only is sweater season an exciting time for us humans, but it’s also the beginning of one of the most dog-friendly seasons.

Along with the crisp temperatures creating a safe environment for your furry friend to frolic following the toasty summer months, this time of year is also filled with the opportunity to promote your pup to co-pilot for your fun outings. Check out these activities for you to take part in this autumn:

Festive Activities

The majority of Fall activities occur outside which often allows for pets to attend. So, when planning your apple-picking adventure, vineyard tour get-together, or pumpkin patch visit, ask if pups can attend. This is a great way to spend time and strengthen your bond while you both get some fresh air!

A fun fall pet-friendly event nearby is the last opening weekend of the Maryland Corn Maze. While not pet-friendly the entire open season, during the last open weekend the corn maze and farm are open to humans and dogs. This unique outdoor activity will allow you and your pet to stretch your legs in the maze while also enjoying other fun activities and festive foods. Take A Hike

Exploring nearby trails and parks in our area is a great way to incorporate exercise into both your and your pup’s routine and the Millersville area has plenty to offer! Baltimore and Annapolis Trail Park, Perimeter Trail, and Wildflower Trail are just three of the many popular spots for walking trails.

Another bonus of the cooler weather approaching is the decrease in flea and tick appearances. These bugs typically like to live and be most active in warmer, humid months. So, while flea and tick prevention is recommended year-round, the chances of you running into these insects decrease as the crisp air rolls in.

Once the temperature starts to drop, so does the risk of heat exhaustion and burned paw pads, but it is still important to be cautious of your pup’s abilities and stamina when exercising. And don’t forget to stay hydrated on your outdoor expedition!

Table for Two

With the temperatures dropping, restaurant patios will become the new hot spot to enjoy a meal or drink and many establishments allow furry friends to accompany their owners when dining outside.

Libations Tavern, a locally owned and operated spot for high-quality food and drinks, and Pour Dog House, a popular hangout with craft beer and food, are two local spots that feature a dog-friendly covered outdoor patio. While you enjoy a tasty meal, your pup can enjoy the company all around! If you want to have your pet join you, make sure to call ahead to ensure your restaurant of choice is a pet-friendly environment.

Pumpkin Spice for All

Pumpkin, sweet potato, and turkey all make our mouths water as fall approaches. But did you know that these flavors can be enjoyed by more than just us? That’s right when incorporated safely and introduced in small doses, fall flavors can soon become a shared favorite among all family members including your four-legged ones. These seasonal foods can be incredibly healthy and a great addition to your dog’s diet. Check out the following festive dog treat recipes: https://www.pawtracks.com/dogs/fall-dog-treat-recipes/

Fall isn’t just a season loved by many humans for the fun activities, festive flavors, and crisp weather; this time of year is the perfect opportunity to get your furry friend outside. Millersville, MD, and the surrounding areas have plenty of places to explore to have a fulfilling Fall!
